CoRec specific rules

All
NFHS rules will govern play with the following changes/clarifications:

Grace period
:  5 mins max.  If a team has at least 1 participant signed in at game time, but not enough to play, the team will be given 5 mins to get enough players.  If after 5 mins, the team is still short players, the game is a forfeit.  If the teams gets enough to play before the 5 mins is up, the game will begin, and the other team will be awarded 7 points.  The game clock will reflect the amount of time elapsed for the grace period.  If no players are signed in at game time, there is no grace period, and the game is declared a forfeit.  No exceptions.

  1. Rosters are limited to 15 players
  2. Minimum number of players needed to start a game is 4.
  3. Games will consist of 2 halves, each lasting 20 minutes (Sorority league will play 2 halves of 15 minutes each).  The clock will run continuously except the last one (1) minute of the first half when it will stop on all whistles, and the last two (2) minutes of the 2nd half when it will stop on all whistles..  The length of each overtime period will be three (3) minutes. During overtime, the clock will run continuously until the last minute of each extra period when it will stop for all whistles. Half time will last 3 minutes.  The clock will always stop on timeouts and injuries.
  4. Mercy Rule: When a team is ahead by 15 or more points at the 2-minute mark in the second half, the clock will not stop.  If the margin becomes less than 15-points, the clock will stop on all whistles. In the judgment of the officials and/or supervisor, if a team is dragging or allows the team behind to make up baskets so the mercy rule is not in effect, the clock will still run continuously.
  5. Teams will have 3 timeouts per game. One timeout granted per overtime. Timeouts not used during regulation play cannot be used during the overtime period(s). Only players on court can call a timeout. (Exception:  If team has a legal coach on bench, he/she may call timeout.  See #9 below) Each timeout will be one (1) minute in length.
  6. Jerseys are required.  See Handbook for rules.
  7. Two technical fouls will result in expulsion from the game.  A player may be ejected at any time by an official, scorekeeper, or supervisor.  If kicked out of a game the player automatically must sit out at least the next scheduled game.  The player and team are also subject to further suspension/discipline depending on the judgment of the Intramural Director.  If a player is ejected from a game, that player must meet with the Intramural Director before being allowed to participate in further games.  It is the player’s responsibility to schedule the meeting with the Intramural Director.  The meeting must take place in the Director’s office the next day at the earliest.
  8. **Rule Change** - Free Throw Administration – During free throws, no one will be allowed to be in the bottom spot, next to the basket, on either side of the lane.  Therefore, at most, the team shooting will have only 3 players lined up, counting the shooter.  The defense must have 2 players above the blocks (not on the blocks), with a maximum allowed of 4.  If team decides not to occupy a space, it will remain empty.  Players may move into the lane once the ball hits the rim.
  9. Teams may have 1 person who is not a player sit on their bench and act as a coach.  The coach must sign in just as any player would with their Panther ID.  The players must sit while on the bench.  The coach may stand provided they are not a problem to the game and/or officials.  If anyone on staff asks the coach to sit down, he/she must do so for the remainder of the game.  Coaches can receive technical fouls that will be administered for the opposing team.  Coaches must leave the gym after ONE (1) TECHNICAL FOUL.  Also, the team will lose its coaching privileges indefinitely.  The coach must meet w/ the Intramural Director before being reinstated.
  10. After each game, both teams will be given a SPORTSMANSHIP RATING by the officials, scorekeepers, and supervisors. (See the "Player Conduct & Sportsmanship" section in the Handbook for more information)
CoRec specific rules - all rules above apply except with the following modifications:
