The best way to become active on campus.
Intramural sports are scheduled competitive and recreational activities. Intramural activities are offered for both men and women. Participants may choose from individual, dual or team activities. Male, female, and coed activities are organized into various skill levels for the enjoyment of the participant.
Bench Press
Information
Men's and Women's Divisions offered; Weight classes determined at event; Prizes awared for weight classes and men's/women's overall; Registered participants given priority, walk-ups welcome if time/space available; Location - Weight Room of SRC
Rules
1. Head and Trunk (buttocks and shoulder blades) must be in contact with bench at all times. Feet must be flat on floor or elevated plates
a. Head judge will call blades and head.
b. End judges will call feet and butt. Both must make call to be a “no-lift”
2. Assist with un-rack is permitted
3. Bar will come to chest.
4. Lift on judge’s command to “lift”
a. Bar cannot sink after lift command is given
b. Lift must be consistent upward motion with no hesitation
c. Arms must lock out at same time
d. Bar cannot touch frame
5. Rack on judge’s command
6. Spotters will assist with putting plates on bar. Lifter is responsible for confirming amount as correct. Collars are mandatory.
7. Belts are allowed. Gloves are not allowed. Chalk will be provided.
8. 3 lifts per person.
a. May stay the same lift weight or go up on lift attempts. Ex. On lift 1, if you try to lift 150lbs and fail, lift 2 must be 150lbs or more.
b. Initial lift weight will be given at weigh –in.
c. Lift 2 weight will be given to staff once lift 1 has been completed.
d. May not change lift weight once you are on the bench
9. At weigh-in a coefficient will be assigned based on body weight. Coefficients will not be shown until all have completed all 3 lifts. The best lift amount will be multiplied by the coef to determine score for comparison.
10. 1 over winner for men and women. Weight classes will be determined the day of the event based on the number of participants.
