Rules
All standard Intramural Rules apply
Grace period: None
1. The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT". This may be done by:
- Hitting an opposing player in the air with a thrown ball below the shoulders. If an opponent ducks to avoid being hit and gets hit above the shoulders, he/she is out.
- Catching a ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.
- Stepping across the center line
- Players are also eliminated if they step across the boundary lines without retrieving a stray ball.
3. The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner. A 10-minute time limit has been established for each contest. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of the 10 minutes, the team with the greater number of players remaining will be declared the winner. In the case of an equal number of players remaining after regulation, sudden-death overtime period will be played. Once 1 person is eliminated, a team is declared the winner.
4. Each team may play with a maximum of six (6) players. There is no minimum number of players required to start a game. For CoRec, the maximum number of men who can play is 3. A team can play with up to 6 women if they wish. Roster limit is 10.
5. There are no timeouts and teams can only substitute between games.
6. Rules will be enforced primarily by the "honor system"*. Players will be expected to rule whether or not a hit was legal or whether they were legally eliminated. All contests will be supervised by a court monitor*. The court monitor’s responsibility will be to rule on any situation in which teams cannot agree. THE COURT MONITOR’S DECISION IS FINAL – NO EXCEPTIONS.
7. During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines. Players may leave the boundaries only to retrieve stray balls. If a player steps over the boundary lines, other than to retrieve a ball, he/she is out of the game. When a player is retrieving a ball outside the court they may not be hit with a ball.
